What is the meaning of OTEC and full form ?

Ocean thermal energy conversion is a method of energy production which uses the warm water of the ocean to spin a turbine.The spinning of the turbine converts mechanical energy into electrical energy and voila! we have power which can be then distributed via a grid to consumers.

It should be noted that the ocean water on top is warm and as we go below it turns cold,this is known as a gradient because the suns rays do not reach the lower levels of sea water.By using ammonia that boils very easily,it gets subjected to this warm water which is readily available.The evaporation process is that what spins the turbine.
