IIT JEE COACHING CLASSES – IF you have read my earlier post on “how tough IIT JEE is”, its safe to assume that you  have decided to go ahead and take the exam,or atleast are in preparation for doing so.I had given the JEE twice,in 1999 and 2000 and that was the first year that the screening was introduced.I decided to concentrate more on JEE and less on HSC,since giving your best shot to both would get you nowhere with any of them.I stayed away from conventional classes,and decided to take the private tuition of an ex JEE topper at my residence.Since it was one on one,it proved expensive(about 1000 rupees an hour,in todays terms).I neglected HSC and got 56% there.Unfortunately,i didn’t do enough for JEE either,but through my failure i have only ONE piece of advice for very serious aspiring student that 100% want to clear it –

GO TO KOTA. Leave your family,your college your everything for 1 year.

Its here that you can join an excellent coaching class,study many hours a day and then definitely clear JEE.Only in KOTA will you find the most experienced professors and the highest percentage of successful candidates.

Here is a short compilation of  the IIT JEE coaching classes,incuding some details about the examination.

ELIGIBILITY AND PREREQUISITES

1.Candidates from OBC,GE and DS should have been born on or after October 1st, 1986
2.Candidates from SC,ST,PD should have been born on or after October 1st,1981.
3.Have to have cleared the QE in the previous year prior to give the JEE
4.A 10+2 qualifying exam/or its equivalent from any State or Central Examination Board.
5.The Qualifying exam percentage aggregate should be atleast 60% for GE,OBS,DS and atleast 55% for SC,ST and PD.

REGISTRATION

Registration can be done by sending a demand draft with the application fees to the appropriate Zonal IIT centre,as stated below:

The Application form can be purchased form some of the above listed banks at a cost of Rs.500 for SC/ST candidates,and Rs.1000 for General candidates.
Other things you will need are:
1.Attested age prof document(School Marksheet/Certificate will do)
2.2 passport size photographs

4.An A4 size envelope(Waterproof preferably)

FORMAT and SCORING

JEE has 2 papers that hav eto be completed in a stipulated time frame of 3 hours. It is the objective type ORS sheet with bubbles that have to be coloured.There will bea question with 4 bublees out of which you colour the appropriate answer bubble.This ors sheet is mechanically fed into the scripting machine and will be evaluated. Separate answer pages will be given for rough work and calculation work.
The scoring system is percentile basis.That means the highest marks secured by any student will be considered 100% and following marks of other students will be based on that percentile.
