GP rating course IMU CET 2018 Syllabus, eligibility and admission – The general purpose rating course by The IMU for joining the merchant navy after your 10th standard or 12th standard is by doing the GP rating course.Before you go to sea or Pre sea on a merchant vessel,you need to pass this test or CET.This CET that you need to pass is conducted by the BES which stands for Board of Examination of Seafarers.After passing this CET you will get a CDC and can apply for a merchant navy job even in a foreign company that pays in dollars.The salary is close to $1000 a month for new cadets.

GP rating course for July-2018 Batch, Batch Commences from 01 July 2018. GP Rating is a six months residential course approved by D.G Shipping (Govt of India).

GP rating course IMU CET 2018 Syllabus

GP Rating syllabus includes combined study of Deck and Engineering subjects.

This course will cover all aspects of the seafaring profession (Deck and Engine), which also include swimming, physical drills, workshop training, rope and mast climbing, lifesaving appliances usage, fire fighting exercises and ship visits etc.

The G.P.Rating candidate will be able to work in all seamanship activities on-board at deck side & as well as at Engine side. With further Sea-service, they will be promoted as, Able-Bodied Seamen / Engine Fitter, Bosun & Officer on clearing the Examinations.

 

GP Rating Eligibility for GP rating course IMU CET 2018

Educational qualifications:

You need to have pass class or minimum of 40% marks your 10th board exams state based either SSC/CBSE/ICSE/IB.Same minimum percentage is required for the 12th standard state board.These exams should be passed from a recognized state board.Also the marks in English language should not be below 40%.

Age limit 17.5 years minimum and should not exceed 25 years before the course starts.

Duties of a General Purpose Rating on a Ship:

GP Rating is trained in both, Deck and Engine Room duties. They
can be employed in either Deck or Engine department according
to the needs of the company. Ratings work on the ship involves
seamanship activities, cargo handling, maintenance work,
operation and maintenance of machinery.

Physical requirements for GP rating course IMU CET 2018 

There are some medical standards that need to followed that is required by the director general of shippping:

1.Minimum Height-157 cms, Weight-48 kgs

2.Use of corrective lenses for eyesight is permitted but the maximum permissible limits, at entry, are 6/12 in each eye or 6/9 in better eye and 6/18 in other eye for distant unaided vision. Color blindness is not permitted.

3.Overall physical fitness should be above average with no history of sea sickess

GP Rating course structure:

This Academy conducts internal examinations during the
course of training to gauge the progress of trainees. The final
examinations are conducted through The All India Exit
Examination for GP Ratings which is conducted in four parts
(Oral, Practical, Online and Written) and is conducted by
Board of Examination for Seafarers Trust, Navi Mumbai. The
Trainee has to secure minimum 60% in each of the parts to
