Aeronautical engineering colleges – Scope and Salary – Just like the future scope of Computer Engineering or Civil Engineering has great potential, everyone of us has at some point used the phrase “its not rocket science” when talking about something that is quite simple, and not as complex and difficult to do as rocket science.Well here is some news for you, “Rocket Science” is in fact a generic name for aerospace and aeronautical engineering. This genre of engineering deals with the design, maintenance, testing and simulation of various aircraft and spacecraft. Course studies include topics of avionics,jet propulsion and aerodynamics to name a few.
In India in order to apply for a bachelors degree you have to have HSC or its equivalent passed with an average of 50% minimum in each of Maths, Chemistry and Physics (PCM).There are just a handful of institutes here that give you a B.Tech in Aerospace Engineering.All IITs in the country have a 4 year program to this effect as well as masters and Phd. To get into IIT one must clear the JEE. Since aerospace is not a very sought after and in demand stream, even a higher rank at JEE should suffice to get you a seat.
Aeronautical engineering scope and salary
In India, Space research is still in a very nascent stage,the government run facility ISRO with pennies for funds wont give a very high paying job you can expect CTC of about 1.8 to 2.25 lacs p.a. starting salaries.Other public operators like National Aeronautics Limited that handles aircraft maintenance and procedures can fetch you anywhere from 1.5-2.75 lacs p.a. Private operators that do maintenance and hanger docking technicians for private airlines can give a much better salary as they are commercial entities.Expect anywhere from 2.85 to 3.25 lacs starting salary.
If you chose to do the aeronautical engineering degree in US, some of the best places to enroll (if you are accepted of course) is MIT and Georgia Tech.The cost of the course would be at least 6 times more unfortunately than if you did it here. But research labs and infrastructure in this field of engineering are highly superior in the US a compared to here. Getting a job working in the US as an Aeronautical engineer is quite good as its very specialized.An average salary of $65K-75K should be expected.Some of the employers are Boeing, NASA ,Bombardier and Lockheed Martin

I have heard that IIT Kanpur is best college for B.Tech Aerospace.if you can highlight more on IIT Kanpur
