What does C-DTE mean or stand for ?

Character mode DTE is a data terminal equipment such as a computer.This terminal in the old days was only character based unlike today’s Windows systems that are Graphic based.These C-DTEs were connected to a DCE- data communication equipment and commands could be given through the CDTE.
