Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed.)

Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed.) – Diploma in Elementary education or sometimes called D.Ed is a short two year course that can be done by students or existing teachers to improve their teachings skills and methods. For some states,in order to do D.El.Ed , you need to give the entrance test conducted by NIOS to secure a  seat in a college. This previously used to be conducted by SCERT.

Before going any further,i want to tell all you readers that my brother, sister and mother are all B.Eds and most of this information i have collected from them in a personal capacity.

B.Ed is the next step after doing D.El.Ed. You can directly go in for B.Ed and teach higher classes.

AFFILIATION

An important point to note is that you should always do a D.El.Ed course from an institute that is affiliated to the state education board regulatory authority.

For example in the state of Maharashtra, the regulatory body is MCERT which is the Maharashtra State Council of Education Research and training.

Why is D.El.Ed important?

D.El.Ed is a certification that proves that you are a fully trained teacher.Nowadays most government affiliated schools will ask for this certification if you want to teach classes 1 to 5.Even many good private schools will not employ you if you do not have either a D.El.Ed or B.Ed.One major factor is that you will be paid more if you have this diploma.

Difference between D.El.Ed , B.Ed and TET

D.El.Ed is only a training program for teachers that want to teach upto class 5.Meaning elementary, pre primary and Primary classes. If you want a certification to teach secondary and higher secondary then you need to go in for the B.Ed course and the TET course.

B.Ed or Bachelor of Education isa  post graduate course that is usually 1 year long. This is an advanced teachers training course

D.El.ED Course and subjects syllabus

These are some of the subjects that you will learn during your two years D.El.Ed course. The most important part of this course is the final year internship that will be the on job training. You will have to actually teach in font of a live class and will be graded on it.

Future Scope and Job Career for D.El.Ed

In order to get a good job in any elementary, pre primary or primary school, nursery or kindergarten, the D.El.Ed diploma is a must.

As seen from the advertisement below i found on a job portal, you can expect a minimum of Rs.15,000 a month even if you are a fresher with zero experience.

There is lots of demand for trained teachers for primary section. One advantage you have over others who do B.Ed is that more teachers opt for B.Ed and TET compared to D.El.Ed,This is because they prefer to teach older students.

Young students of primary section are more difficult to handle, and so the job becomes harder. Many teachers do not have patience for young children hence they do not opt for D.El.Ed.
