What does AMPS mean or stand for ?

Advanced Mobile Phone System was an old technology that cellular phone service providers used to relay analog signals from the fixed transmission tower to individual handsets within a cellular network area. This area was physically demarcated in a hexagonal shape and had a range of anywhere between 8 to 15 miles.
