1.B.Sc hospitality

This bachelor degree is offered by many colleges and can be taken up after 10+2.Like other B.Sc courses it runs for three years and each year has two semesters. In these total of 6 semesters there are a variety of subjects that will be taught to you as shown below.Many universities and colleges that offer this course,base it on a credit system.You need to achieve 120 credits in the three year time period to qualify for this degree at the end of six semesters.

2.B.A Culinary Arts

Since B.Sc Hospitality is available only to science students after doing 10+2,i thought i would add a degree that even arts students can do.This B.A degree like a B.Sc is also three years long and can be opted for after doing class 12 in arts.IT has similar subjects of the B.Sc hospitality studies program:

3.Diploma in Food Production

This is one of the most best and most famous hotel management courses after 12th.One of the main reason why more people opt for this compared to a Bachelors degree is because it is only 18 months long.

In these 18 months of classroom training,you learn practically everything related to the food business.Everything from theory of dish washing to hotel economic management.

About the course – It is a 36 week course plus 24 weeks in on job training.The IHM is affiliated to the NCHM and offers this course in all its branches all over India.

It consists of two semesters of 18 weeks long and has the following subjects:

Cookery Theory
Cookery Practical
Larder Theory
Larder Practical
Hygiene and Nutrition
Commodities and Costing
Computer Awareness

 

There are two examinations in the academic year,one is the mid term exam between the semesters and the other is the end of the year exam.

4.DIPLOMA IN FOOD AND BEVERAGE SERVICE

This course is also offered by all the IHM branches all over the country and is ideal for people who want to ficus more on the managements side of the hotel industry rather than  working in the kitchen.All the aspects of the Food and Beverage management can be studied in detail in a short amount of time.

About the course:

You can apply for this course after doing your class 12 in any stream.It is a 36 month course and also has a 24  months of industrial training which is similar to an internship.

These short courses chef courses last for only 12 weeks and are offered by most of the IHM branches all over the country.The best part of this is that you can learn only one specialty of your choice like:

  • Pastry Making
  • Restaurant Curry Preperation
  • Continental Sauces
  • Icing and Frosting

Scope : This course will cost you approximately rs.20,000 to Rs.30,000 for the 12 weeks duration.After doing this course you will learn a specific skill in a method of cooking and this will help you if you are working from home and in a job .

If you are a work from home based caterer you can expand your menu,and if you are working in a hotel/restaurant,this will look better on your resume and help you get a better position at the job.

 

 

6.CRAFTMANSHIP COURSE IN FOOD PRODUCTION AND PATISSERIE

This is a great course for those students who are just 10th pass and not even done thier class 12.It is a one and half year course thatis similar to a certificate course and teaches all aspects of hands on preperation of food dishes as well as baking and cake making.

It is an excellent course for the following reasons:

About the course :

  • It is a basic course in the fundamentals of F & B Management.
  • After doing this course you can do further and do a 18 month Diploma in F & B Service.
  • If you do not enjoy doing much kitchen work and cooking,this course is for you.
  • It is a short 5 months course with just 1 semester in which you learn the following subjects:

7.BBA in Hotel Management

Bachelor in Business Administration is a 3 year degree course that is offered after 10+2.This particular course is available in only select institutes in India and has the unique advantage of giving you both an understanding of the Food industry economics,as well as the production side of the hotel industry.
