Sample Reference List for Employment

Sample Reference List for Employment –  References are often asked by the hiring manager or Human resources manager at a new company that you have requested employment at and sent your job application to. These references are people that are known to you either professionally or personally. The reason that these references are asked is for various reasons. The main one being that it stands as a guarantee or the reference is a pre-guarantor to the applicants integrity and character.Lets face it, no one wants to hire a trouble maker or some one with a dubious past.Your future employer will want to check two important facts/ attributes about you – mainly pertaining to your previous employment ,the role you played in that organization, and on a personal front , how good / clean your character and personality is.

Bearing those two points in mind, you need to chose your references wisely.A minimum of two and maximum of four will need to be furnished. Keep the strongest two on he top – The first – a former employer or manager that you were working under {someone of the same cadre that would write you a positive recommendation letter as well} .This anchor reference will verify your professional job duties and work related queries, and the second anchor reference person would need to be a friend who knows you well personally and will be able to answer some general  questions about you.

When to submit your Reference List for Employment

What and when to submit your reference list is tricky. You have to play this part cunningly .Remember that this reference list is a pre check on your employment history and will verify a few inclusions that you have mentioned on your resume.Since your resume will include your current employment record and will need a reference from there,it is wise to the submit this reference list at the end of the job application process after the job interview has been conducted. This is important for the simple reason that your reference from your current office will get to know of your new job application later on, after you have gone through the job interview. This prevents malaise and ill will -if any- with senior staff from your current job. After all, no one likes to see an employee leave  the company, and join a competitor.

Who to  include on your Sample Reference List for Employment

As mentioned before, who you select as your references on your list is crucial. Not only should they know you well enough, but they should also have a positive outlook for you and give the caller an enthusiastic description to the questions they are being asked.

Your two anchor references right at the top of your list should have a good professional standing in some company, and preferably should be highly placed with an appealing designation in  the corporate hierarchy.Your professional anchor reference most suitably should be your current manager or superior, with whom you have a good rapport.Putting the name of a colleague or a general staff worker in the office is unwise. You need a person in a position of authority to verify and vouch for your claims in the resume.Your second anchor reference can be a good friend who knows you well enough to answer basic questions about you, but should also have a good designation in his/her won work place. or else have a highly regarded occupation like doctor or Dentist. This need not be someone from the corporate world, but needs to be someone of good repute.Maybe a professor at a local college or a senior  administrator at a non profit organization.Your third or fourth reference can be a colleague at office or a neighbor.

How to frame your Reference List for Employment

Your reference list needs to be sequentially presented with the name, address, designation of the person in that company/organization and telephone number. If there is  doctor/dentist/engineer or other professional on the list, make sure to include the academic title associated with that  person or degrees attained. This gives weightage and adds credibility to the reference.
